Appointment of Dr. Angela Kadenhe-Chiweshe as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Trauma

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Angela Kadenhe-Chiweshe, MD, FACS, FAAP, as Chief of the division of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Trauma, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Kadenhe-Chiweshe is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and a nationally respected pediatric surgeon with extensive expertise spanning the full breadth of neonatal and pediatric surgical care. She has dedicated her career to complex pediatric surgical care, multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical innovation, education, and translational and clinical research.

A recognized leader in pediatric surgery, Dr. Kadenhe-Chiweshe has played a pivotal role in developing and strengthening multidisciplinary programs across the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise. Her clinical interests include pediatric solid tumors, hepatobiliary surgery, vascular anomalies, neonatal surgery, and ECMO. Dr. Kadenhe-Chiweshe has been instrumental in the continued growth of clinical programs at WCM, helping to establish multidisciplinary evidence-based care pathways and engage in clinical outcomes research. She has received multiple honors recognizing both her clinical excellence and dedication to teaching, including repeated recognition as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. Her research contributions in pediatric tumor biology and vascular anomalies have been recognized nationally and internationally.

In her new role as division chief, Dr. Kadenhe-Chiweshe will lead the continued advancement of pediatric surgical care across Weill Cornell Medicine and the NewYork-Presbyterian network. Her vision includes strengthening quaternary pediatric surgical programs, expanding access to specialized care throughout the region, advancing clinical research and innovation, and fostering collaborative partnerships across all care disciplines.
