Dr. Erika Abramson Named Associate Vice Chair of Health Equity and Medical Education Research in Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the appointment of Erika Abramson, M.D., M.Sc. as Associate Vice Chair of Health Equity and Medical Education Research in Pediatrics.

Dr. Abramson is a Professor of Pediatrics and Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine, board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine, and holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Clinical Investigation. She is also an Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. A local and nationally recognized expert and innovator in medical education, Dr. Abramson’s current research and education focus is on promoting scholarly activity among trainees. She spent much of her early career conducting health services research focused on adoption and use of health information technology and health information exchange to improve patient safety. She holds numerous local and national leadership positions, including Co-Director of the Academic Pediatric Association’s (APA) Research Scholars Program and is on the APA’s Research Executive Committee. Dr. Abramson has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, written 16 reviews and book chapters, been an invited speaker at over 25 regional or national meetings, and has led 30 national workshops. She also has received 7 teaching and mentoring awards, including 2 highly prestigious awards from the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) for extraordinary contributions to mentorship activity in the last 5 years, and the Walter W. Tunnessen Jr. Award for extraordinary or innovative contributions in pediatric graduate medical education at the national level.

In her new role as Associate Vice Chair of Health Equity and Medical Education Research in Pediatrics, Dr. Abramson will focus on developing and implementing departmental vision, mission and goals for health services, health equity, and medical education research.  Dr. Abramson will continue in her current departmental and institutional roles, including Associate Program Director for Pediatric Graduate Medical Education, PI of the Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program (ECRIP) fellowship program, and the Assistant Dean of Education Research, Outcomes, and Innovation.

Dr. Abramson received her B.A. from Yale in 1999, her M.D. from New York University School of Medicine in 2003, and her M.Sc. from Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Cornell University in 2009.  She is extremely enthusiastic about collaborating with others inside and external to the Department and Institution as she works to advance this facet of the Department.
