Dr. Jennie Ono Appointed Chief of Pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens

We are delighted to welcome Jennie G. Ono, M.D., M.S. as the new Chief of Pediatrics at NewYork- Presbyterian Queens (NYP-Q), effective October 1, 2023. Dr. Ono is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and Associate Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She received her undergraduate degree at Vassar College and earned her medical degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine, Dr. Ono has extensive experience and expertise in inpatient care, newborn medicine, and pediatric asthma. Dr. Ono is also a leader in research and education, with a master's degree in clinical and translational science, and has authored numerous prestigious publications in peer-reviewed journals. She joins NYP-Q from NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she most recently served as the Medical Director for Inpatient Pediatrics and the Director of the Pediatric Asthma Program.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Joseph J. Abularrage for his decades of outstanding service to NYP-Q as the Chief of Pediatrics, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics. Dr. Abularrage led the Department of Pediatrics’ growth from a small service to a large multi-specialty regional department, recruiting the entire faculty and establishing all of NYP-Q’s primary care, subspecialty and inpatient hospitalist programs including the practice in Fresh Meadows. He was instrumental in the expansion of NYP-Q’s level I NICU to a level III NICU and developing an inpatient hospitalist service. Working closely with the various departments and leaders, he set high standards for patient care and safety, implementing new programs to enhance pediatric care for the children and families of Queens, and has been a strong advocate for pediatric research. Dr. Abularrage served at Weill Cornell Medicine on the admissions committee and executive medical education committee, contributing to problem-based learning and curricular development. He also served as the Medical Board President for six years.

Similarly, please join us in congratulating Dr. Ono and wishing her success in her new role as Chief of Pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.
