Dr. Chani Traube named Director of Clinical Research Mentoring

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Chani Traube, MD, FAAP, FCCM as Director of Clinical Research Mentoring (DCRM) in the Department of Pediatrics. In this new position, Dr. Traube will work alongside the Department’s Vice Chairs of Research to facilitate and oversee the mentor-mentee relationships within the Department’s Junior Faculty Mentoring Program and the Young Investigator Award, supporting the development of physician-scientists within the Department. She will also assist the Director of Fellow Research in identifying talented fellows who may wish to participate in the Fellow to Faculty Transition Program.

An internationally recognized expert in Pediatric Delirium and pediatric intensive care, Dr. Traube is the founding member of the Weill Cornell Delirium Work Group (DWG), and leads a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers who spearhead research into delirium prevention and management in seriously ill children. As work group chair, she has led 25 delirium-related studies, and published 54 articles in peer-reviewed publications. A recipient of numerous awards and grants, Dr. Traube currently has 10 active approved IRBs at Weill Cornell Medicine and provides ongoing consultations to external institutions who are embarking on their own delirium-related research projects. As a direct result of this research program, Dr. Traube has been awarded two R01 awards from the National Institutes of Health.

Along with her own experience building an innovative research program, Dr. Traube offers proven leadership skills and a passion for mentoring at all levels. Over the past 6 years, she personally mentored 16 young investigators, from both Weill Cornell Medicine and external institutions, all of whom have published their work in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national meetings. As the Director for Clinical Research Mentoring, Dr. Traube plans to expand mentorship to more faculty and young investigators in the Department and provide quality control to ensure that the mentor-mentee relationship is committed and productive. 

Dr. Chani Traube is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children's Hospital. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed her Pediatric residency and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship training at/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Her critical care work has been recognized by the Society of Critical Care Medicine, who awarded her the ICU Hero Award in 2018 and the SCCM Gold Snapshot Award in 2019. She recently served as a co-chair of the Society’s ICU Liberation Committee.
