Promotion of Dr. Perdita Permaul to Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Perdita Permaul to Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy, & Immunology, effective November 1, 2024.

Dr. Permaul obtained her medical degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York in 2003. She completed pediatric residency training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2006, followed by a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology and a research fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Asthma Research Center at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, respectively. She then joined Harvard Medical School as an Instructor in 2010 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018. Dr. Permaul joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) as an Assistant Professor in 2019. She currently serves as the Section Chief for Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, the Director of Pediatric Research at New York-Presbyterian Queens and is the Caryl and Israel A. Englander Clinical Scholar.

She has built a pediatric clinical research infrastructure that includes recruitment at three NewYork-Presbyterian sites in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn to answer her research questions. She established an asthma biorepository that has led to her being a Co-Investigator of a recently funded RO1 to study the effects of COVID-19 on subsequent respiratory viral infections in children with and without asthma.

As the Director of Pediatric Research at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, Dr. Permaul works to manage and guide clinical and translational research based at New York-Presbyterian Queens and in collaboration with Weill Cornell Medicine. As Section Chief of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at WCM, she oversees the clinical, educational, and research Allergy and Immunology missions of the Division and practices in Allergy and Immunology. Regionally, Dr. Permaul also holds Executive Board positions for both the New England Society of Allergy and the New York Allergy and Asthma Society. On the National level, she is the Vice Chair of the Environmental Exposure and Respiratory Health Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and was inducted as a National Ambassador for the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.

Dr. Permaul has published 45 research articles, eleven as the first author and three as the senior author. Many of her publications are in high-impact allergy and immunology journals. She further wrote editorials and book chapters. She serves as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Allergy.
