Promotion of Dr. Adin Nelson to Associate Professor of Teaching in Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Adin Nelson to Associate Professor of Teaching in Pediatrics on the Pathway Recognizing Excellence in Teaching effective May 1, 2025.   

Dr. Nelson obtained his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed pediatric residency training at Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, New York and then joined Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.  During that time, he also received an MHPE degree from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Dr. Nelson joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) as an Assistant Professor in July 2020.

Through a combination of leadership positions, invited presentations; and peer-reviewed publications, he has established himself nationally as an expert and innovator in evidence-based education for health professions for both present and future providers.  Dr. Nelson has lectured nationally on medical education and has led several national workshops on the implementation of evidence-based education. His work focuses on advancing clinical practice and teaching.  He has contributed to the medical literature on the applications of evidence-based medical education. He also developed and led a faculty development workshop Lessons from the Hogwarts School of Faculty Development; What are our natural teaching styles, and what can we learn from other teaching styles? This work was presented at the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics, Annual Meeting, and the Pediatric Academic Societies Annual Meeting, both in 2023.

Dr. Nelson has published 6 first-author scientific papers on medical education research in subspecialty journals, one review article, and five book chapters. In addition, based on this work, he has been awarded a Department Pilot award to investigate learning strategies for pediatric residents.  At each of the locations where he has worked, Jacobi, Rutgers, and WCM, Dr. Nelson has received teaching excellence awards from medical students. In addition, at both Rutgers and WCM, he received similar honors in teaching excellence from the pediatric residents and fellows, all reflective of his exceptional contributions to clinical medical education.
