Promotion of Dr. Bernhard Kühn to Tenure Professor of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Bernhard Kühn to tenure Professor of Pediatrics, effective May 1, 2026.  

Dr. Kühn received his medical degree from Freie Universität Berlin and completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by a clinical fellowship and postdoctoral research training at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He was recruited as Chief of the Division of Cardiology in 2024.  

Board-certified in pediatric cardiology, Dr. Kühn is an active member of leading professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has received numerous honors, including a Young Investigator Award from the American College of Cardiology and awards from the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. 

An internationally recognized leader in cardiomyocyte proliferation and heart regeneration, Dr. Kühn has authored 84 peer-reviewed publications in top journals such as Nature Medicine and Cell. His landmark discoveries have demonstrated that postnatal human hearts retain the ability for cardiomyocyte proliferation, reshaping the field and opening 

new pathways for cardiac regeneration. His research program is continuously funded by the NIH and supports innovative translational and clinical studies in congenital heart disease. 

In addition to his research excellence, Dr. Kühn is a highly regarded mentor who has trained many students, fellows, and junior faculty, earning recognition for his commitment to developing the next generation of physician-scientists. 

This promotion recognizes his outstanding achievements in research and his exemplary dedication to teaching and mentorship. Dr. Kühn’s contributions bring great distinction to Weill Cornell Medicine.
