Dr. Shipra Kaicker Promoted to Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce the promotion of Shipra Kaicker, MD to Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, effective January 1, 2022.

 Dr. Shipra Kaicker earned her medical school degree (MBBS) from the University of Delhi, New Delhi India in 1991. She then completed her first pediatric residency at Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi in 1995. This was followed by a second pediatric residency in the U.S at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, New York Medical College, New York. Dr. Kaicker completed her Pediatric Hematology Oncology fellowship from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2003. Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Kaicker joined the Maimonides Infant’s and Children’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York as an attending physician and full-time faculty, where she mentored and trained numerous pediatric residents and medical students.

 Prior to joining New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2017, Dr. Kaicker held academic appointments at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) and SUNY Downstate, and adjunct appointments at New York University (NYU) and Mount Sinai school of Medicine. During her time at Maimonides Medical Center, she served as a full time IRB board member and scientific reviewer for the IRB. Dr. Kaicker has been an active clinical researcher serving as a Principal or Sub Investigator in both national cooperative group trials, such as the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and international industry sponsored clinical trials. 

 Dr. Kaicker was honored by the Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn with a ‘Beloved Doctor Award’ in 2015 and has won several Top Doctor awards. She has been honored for her volunteer work and contributions to hemophilia care by the Hemophilia Society of Delhi on numerous occasions. Dr. Kaicker has published more than 20 articles in peer reviewed journals and has presented several abstracts and posters at both national and international meetings.  

 Dr. Kaicker was awarded a Pediatric Intramural Pilot award in 2019 for her clinical translational project titled, “Blood biomarkers to predict course and response to therapy in Pediatric Immune Thrombocytopenia”. She is also an active member of ICON (Pediatric ITP Consortium of North America) and is participating in current ICON clinical trials.  Furthermore, Dr. Kaicker is part of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) research collaborative for sickle cell disease and is working on the ‘Sickle Cell Clinical Care Pathways & Transitions Work Group’ with the Dalio Center for Health Justice.

At Weill Cornell Medicine, in addition to covering the inpatient pediatric hematology oncology service, Dr. Kaicker provides hematology consults and serves as the Director of the Pediatric Platelet Disorders Program, as well as Director of the Comprehensive Pediatric Sickle Cell Program. She also serves as the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Elective Course Director and preceptor for 4th Medical students (Weill Cornell Medicine and international students). Dr. Kaicker is passionate about providing excellent and state of the art care to children and adolescents with blood disorders and cancers and teaching and mentoring the next generation of clinicians.
