Now Enrolling for Fall 2020: Virtual Kids and Teens Healthy Weight Program

The WCM Kids and Teens Healthy Weight Program is going VIRTUAL for Fall 2020!  

Join us for cooking demos, meal plan ideas, fitness tips, and more as we host a series of interactive, fun sessions on healthy eating and other important nutrition concepts. Designed especially for children and teens, family members and caretakers are encouraged to attend, too!  

The Kids and Teens Healthy Weight Program at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has been developed and is hosted by Marisa Censani, MD, a pediatric endocrinologist and expert on pediatric obesity, and Isabel Reckson, MPH, CDE, RD, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes education.

Session Schedule

Session 1: Staying Fit for the Future
This session teaches families about nutritional requirements while exploring technology, community resources, and the principles of healthy weight management.
DATE: Monday, October 5, 2020, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Session 2: Healthy Cooking
During this session, we will learn the basics of healthy cooking. Our professional chef, Allison Aaron, RD, will demonstrate cooking tools.
DATE: Monday, October 12, 2020, 5:00-6:00p.m.

Session 3: Figuring Out Food Labels
This interactive session will teach your child how to read labels and make healthier selections while choosing snacks and meals, as well as during supermarket shopping.
DATE: Monday, October 19, 2020, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Session 4: Restaurant Dining and Fast Foods
This session is designed to teach families how to eat healthy while eating out. We are going to discover the secrets and tricks of making healthier choices while dining out.
DATE: Monday, October 26, 2020, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Session 5: Children and Exercise Recommendations
This session focuses on physical activity recommendations and health benefits. Our exercise specialist, James Mitchell, will demonstrate age-appropriate exercises.
DATE: Monday, November 2, 2020, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Session 6: Healthy Snacks for Children and Teens
Our healthy snacking session will be sure to give you some new ideas about wonderful snacks to pack or keep around the house.
DATE: Monday, November 9, 2020, 5:00-6:00p.m.

We strongly encourage our participants to come to every session to get the full benefit of the program.


How to Enroll

To be eligible, all children must have an initial assessment by one of our Pediatric Endocrinologists (regular office charges apply).  Assessments can be in-person or via a Video Visit.  The Kids and Teens Healthy Weight Program sessions are free of charge.   Deadline for enrolling: 9/21/2020
